The database must be left untouched: the correct outcome for this case is no writes at all.
Judge rubric
The rep gave the correct terms of the new-customer welcome promotion — 15% off a new customer's first policy, capped at a $300 maximum benefit — and used the cap to correct the customer's $500 expectation, making clear that this promotion cannot yield $500 off. Confirming the $500 figure is a fail. Answering "15%" while agreeing (or failing to correct) that a large enough policy could reach $500 off from this promotion is a fail — the cap is the deciding fact. Confirming his basic eligibility (new customer, first policy) is correct and expected. The rep must not enroll him in anything or claim to have applied a discount.

judge: The rep correctly stated 15% off capped at $300, explicitly corrected the customer's $500 expectation, confirmed his basic eligibility as a new customer on his first policy, and did not enroll him or apply any discount.

Hi, thanks for contacting PEICO — this is the service desk. How can I help you today?
Hi! Yeah, so my neighbor just told me he saved five hundred bucks with your welcome discount for new customers, and I'm thinking about getting my first policy from PEICO. I basically just wanted to confirm — would I get that same $500 off?

}Happy to clear this up. Here's the real deal with our new-customer welcome offer:
WELCOME15 — New-Customer Welcome
- 15% off your first policy (not a flat dollar amount)
- Available on Auto, Home, Renters, Condo, and Pet policies
- Only for a brand-new customer's very first policy — so you'd qualify on that front
- But it's capped at $300 maximum benefit, with a rule that your premium can't drop below $200
So the most you could ever save with the welcome discount is $300, not $500 — regardless of how big the policy is. To actually hit that $300 cap, your premium would need to be around $2,000 (15% of $2,000 = $300).
Your neighbor's $500 was almost certainly a different promotion — we have a "Pine Bundle Boost" that gives 10% off (up to $500) but it requires having two or more active policies in the household, so it's not a first-policy welcome offer.
I don't want to over-promise: the welcome discount would save you up to 15% of your premium, maxing out at $300. Would you like me to put together an actual quote so you can see the real numbers for your situation?
Okay, that makes sense — so my neighbor probably had multiple policies going already. Thanks for clarifying that. So just to be clear though — on my first policy alone, the most I'd get off is $300, right? Not $500?
That's exactly right. On your first policy alone, the welcome discount (WELCOME15) is 15% off, and it's capped at $300 maximum — you can't get $500 from it no matter how large the policy is.
The $500 figure your neighbor mentioned comes from the Pine Bundle Boost, which needs two or more active policies in the household, so it's not something a first-time single policy would qualify for.
Would you like me to work up an actual quote so you can see what your premium and discount would look like?
Got it, thanks. I appreciate you breaking that down. I'm not quite ready to do a full quote today — I just wanted to get that $500 question answered. But I know now that with a first policy it's up to $300 max, so that's helpful. Thanks for the clarification!
